Join Us in Remembering and Honoring Our Veterans at Riverside National Cemetery

REMEMBER the Fallen. . . HONOR those who Serve. . . TEACH our children the value of Freedom.

On Saturday, December 14, 2024, we will celebrate National Wreaths Across America Day at Riverside National Cemetery. This is a day to remember and honor the sacrifices of our veterans who have served and protected our freedom.

Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – Remember, Honor, Teach – is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.

On National Wreaths Across America Day, we will come together as a community to lay wreaths on the graves of our veterans at Riverside National Cemetery (RNC). This is a powerful way to show our appreciation for these heroes’ Service and to teach our children about the value of Freedom.

Riverside National Cemetery is the largest and busiest cemetery managed by the US Department of Veterans Affairs - National Cemetery Administration. Our foundation specifically chose this location as we uncovered that only about 3% or less of the more than 250 thousand veterans interred there were being honored (that’s only about 3000-4200 wreaths on average have been placed there in recent years!) when we first started. In 2022, Empathy is the Remedy Foundation was asked by WAA to be the new Location Coordinator at RNC. We helped place about 10,980 wreaths that year and in 2023 we placed over 10,000 wreaths as well. Our goal is to raise that percentage and remember as many of the 250K+ fallen Veterans resting there as possible.

Here are three ways you can get involved with National Wreaths Across America Day at Riverside National Cemetery:

Sponsor Wreath. For just $17 each, you can sponsor wreaths to be placed on the grave of veterans. This is a meaningful way to honor fallen heroes and to show your support for our veterans.

Volunteer. Volunteers are needed to help lay wreaths at Riverside National Cemetery on National Wreaths Across America Day. This is a great way to get involved and to make a difference in your community.

Spread the word. Encourage your friends and family to get involved with National Wreaths Across America Day. Share information about the program on social media and let others know how they can participate. Use the hashtags #WreathsAcrossAmerica, #LiveWithPurpose, #HonorOurVeterans, #RiversideNationalCemetery, and #empathyistheremedy.

By getting involved with National Wreaths Across America Day at Riverside National Cemetery, you can help to ensure that no veteran is ever forgotten.
